Norwich wins tough contest against Tavistock, 4-2Tavistock Fri, Jan 09, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Norwich Merchants gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Tavistock Braves. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Mitchell Berzins at 16:22 of the third period. Tavistock's power play was ineffective against Norwich's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The Merchants were led by Berzins, who racked up one goal and one assist. Norwich forced the Braves' netminders to work between the pipes, totaling 31 shots and forcing 27 saves. Ben Larder made 18 stops and Jason Miller made nine. Norwich additionally got points from Kurtis Lavis, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Jamie Kelly, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Norwich also got a goal from Zack Morrison as well. More assists for Norwich came via Harlen Vanwynsberghe, who had one. Tavistock excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Braves were helped by Jamie Shoemaker, who registered one goal. Shoemaker scored 2:44 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Tavistock. Jake Wiffen picked up the assist. Tavistock also got points from Wiffen, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Tavistock received assists from Matthew Lupton, Derek Cowing, and Jordan Ritsma, who each chipped in one. Patrick Maziarz rejected 22 shots on goal for the Merchants. Norwich ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. For the Merchants, Jesse Szabo was ejected from the game. Tavistock ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. The Braves ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jordie Schneider was ejected from the game.
