The New Hamburg Firebirds used a sparkling performance by Ryan Purcell to take down the Paris Mounties, as the netminder did not allow a goal in New Hamburg's 5-0 shutout victory. The Firebirds pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 20 penalty minutes. New Hamburg stifled Paris' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Firebirds' defensive effort looked to be improved. New Hamburg gives up 2.8 goals on average per game. The Firebirds forced the Mounties goalie Zach Shomphe to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. New Hamburg was helped by Carter Tracey, who finished with one goal. Tracey scored on the power play 51 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 New Hamburg. The Firebirds had taken the advantage when Paris' Cody Bateman got sent off for delay of game. Jerry Ennett picked up the assist. New Hamburg also got points from Ennett, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Tyler Hoffman, who also tallied two goals and one assist. New Hamburg also got a goal from Tyler Randerson as well. Other players who recorded assists for New Hamburg were Quinten Haddock, who had three and Kory Nowak and Chris Eckert, who each chipped in one. The Mounties' offense operated below their season average. Paris averages 3.6 goals per game. New Hamburg was unable to stop the Mounties from sending pucks towards the net, and Paris eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Ryan Purcell made 31 saves for the Firebirds on 31 shots. New Hamburg registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Firebirds ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Anthony Osterling was ejected from the game. The Mounties' Shomphe stopped 28 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Paris totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 0-for-6 on the power play.
