Ayr downs Woodstock, 6-3

Andrew Richard tallied one point to lead the Ayr Centennials to a 6-3 victory over the Woodstock Navy Vets.

In the losing effort, Woodstock was sparked by Justin Elms, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Elms scored the first of his two goals at 16:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Woodstock. Jake Schneider picked up the assist. Elms' next tally made the score 4-2 Ayr with 6:49 left in the second period. The Navy Vets earned a power play opportunity when Austin Kovrig was put in the box for high sticking. Dylan Wettlaufer assisted on the tally.

Ayr forced Woodstock's goaltenders to work all game long, racking up 34 shots and forcing 28 saves. Michael Roefs made 26 stops and Jackson Swindells made two. Team could not crack the Navy Vets' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 11 opportunities to play with the man advantage. The Centennials found themselves short handed often, totaling 74 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays.

Ayr also got points from Jackson White, who also had one goal and one assist, Riley Clipper, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Quinn Diamond, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Ayr included Connor MacLean and Carver Ormiston, who scored one goal each. In addition, Ayr received assists from Mackenzie Kemp, who had two and Eric Hackborn, Brendan Schaefer, Sean Mitchell, and Colin Schuringa, who each chipped in one.

Woodstock kept Ayr's goalie busy throughout the game, and Will Rawski made 39 saves on 42 shots. The Navy Vets' defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. Woodstock is averaging 2.5 goals against for the season. The Navy Vets could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 98 minutes in penalties during the game.

Woodstock additionally got points from Schneider, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Woodstock were Cam Leslie, who had one and Mackenzie Langford, who had two.

The Centennials ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Logan Beechey was ejected from the game.
