Tavistock downs Burford in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

The Tavistock Braves pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Burford Bulldogs on a clutch goal by Shaun Pickering.

Pickering had a great game for Tavistock, netting two goals. Pickering scored at 15:43 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Tavistock and again while on the power play 2:35 into the fifth to make the score 3-2 Tavistock.

The Braves stifled Burford's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Tavistock forced the Bulldogs goalie Riley Edwards to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. The Braves could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Jake Wiffen also scored for Tavistock. In addition, Tavistock received assists from Jared Yantzi, Matthew Lupton, Jordie Schneider, Tayler Trachsel, and Drew Wagler, who each chipped in one.

Burford racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 13 minors and one major for 51 minutes in penalty time. The Bulldogs had been averaging 29.0 minutes in penalties per game. Burford's offense rang up 35 shots on Tavistock's net. The Bulldogs excelled on the penalty kill, only allowing the Braves to get one power play goal on 11 chances.

Burford was helped by Jesse Brooks, who registered one goal. Brooks scored 1:58 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Owen Hinch provided the assist. Burford also got a goal from Kyle Walker as well. Other players who recorded assists for Burford were Connor Merritt and Broidy Rondelet, who contributed one each.

Ben Larder rejected 33 shots on goal for Tavistock. The Braves ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jamie Shoemaker was ejected from the game. Edwards recorded 35 saves for the Bulldogs. Burford registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. For the Bulldogs, Alex Hall and Brad Vervaecke were ejected from the contest.
