Wellesley wins tough contest against Delhi, 4-2Delhi Community Centre Fri, Dec 12, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wellesley Applejacks and the Delhi Travellers were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Wellesley made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2. The Applejacks gained the winning advantage on a goal by Tyler Seguin 3:19 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer. Wellesley's penalty kill excelled, as the Applejacks gave up zero goals despite allowing 11 power plays. Wellesley was sparked by Jake Wilkinson, who grabbed one goal. Wilkinson scored 8:34 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Wellesley. Matt Ridge assisted on the tally. The Applejacks stifled Delhi's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Wellesley forced the Travellers goalie Patrick Tanner to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. The Applejacks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 54 minutes in penalties during the game. Wellesley additionally got points from Alex Uttley, who also had one goal and one assist and Josh Bickell, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Cal Jefferies and Justin Plant, who contributed one each. Delhi excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Travellers' offense rang up 34 shots on Wellesley's net. Delhi was helped by Kelsey Van Ymeren, who finished with one goal. Van Ymeren scored 10:10 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Wellesley. Matt Lynaugh picked up the assist. Nevin Guenther also scored for Delhi. Other players who recorded assists for Delhi were Colin Van Daele and Jarred Ebdon, who each chipped in one. Keaton Weiss made 32 saves for the Applejacks on 34 shots. Tanner recorded 30 saves for the Travellers. Delhi incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
