Norwich erases deficit to stun Wellesley, 4-3

The Wellesley Applejacks could not hold down the Norwich Merchants, and Merchants erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 4-3 win.

Norwich let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Merchants took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Drake Morrell at 3:38 in the first period. Norwich found itself down 3-1 after Wellesley's Blake Hetherington put the puck home at 15:40 in the first period. After knotting things up at 3-3 on a goal by Jordan Gillis at 2:37 in the third, the Merchants got the game-winner from Braeden Shand at 18:09 in the third period.

Morrell was all over the ice for Norwich, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win.

The Merchants stifled the Applejacks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Norwich's offense rang up 45 shots on Wellesley's net.

Troy Lamoure also scored for Norwich. Other players who recorded assists for Norwich were Kurtis Lavis, Jordan Everets, and Matt Zilke, who each chipped in one.

The Applejacks kept the Merchants' goalie busy throughout the game, and Justin Pacheco made 28 saves on 31 shots.

Wellesley was led by Reid Denstedt, who registered two goals and one assist. Denstedt scored the first of his two goals at 8:36 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Alex Uttley assisted on the tally. Denstedt's next tally made the score 2-1 Wellesley with 8:56 left in the first period. Uttley picked up the assist. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Tyler Seguin, who had one.

Norwich incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Merchants ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jamie Kelly was ejected from the game. Keaton Weiss recorded 41 saves for the Applejacks. Wellesley incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For the Applejacks, Paul Morra and Hetherington were ejected from the contest.
