GAME RECAP

Schuringa lifts Ayr over Burford, 6-2

Burford Community Centre    Sat, Dec 06, 2014

Colin Schuringa was all over the ice for the Ayr Centennials, as he tallied two goals in Ayr's 6-2 win over the Burford Bulldogs.

Schuringa scored at 2:45 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Ayr and again while 5:44 into the third to make the score 4-2 Ayr.

The Centennials' penalty kill excelled, as Ayr gave up zero goals despite allowing 10 power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:31 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Centennials' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. Ayr had been averaging 31.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Centennials stifled Burford's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bulldogs were unable to stop Ayr from sending pucks towards the net, and the Centennials eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Ayr also got points from Jake Whibbs, who also registered one goal and two assists, Quinn Diamond, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Eric Hackborn, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Riley Clipper also scored for Ayr. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Mackenzie Kemp, who had two and Coleton Madge, Jackson White, and Anthony Pullia, who contributed one each.

Burford forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 29.0 minutes per game the Bulldogs had been spending in the box. Burford's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 10 Ayr power plays.

The Bulldogs were helped by Quinn Stefanelli, who racked up one goal. Stefanelli scored 1:07 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burford. Tyler Hinde assisted on the tally. Burford also got a goal from Ryan Cadwell as well. In addition, Burford received assists from Chris Grand and Mitch Randell, who each chipped in one.

Ayr's Brayden Bruce stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. For the Centennials, Austin Kovrig and Sean Mitchell were ejected from the contest. Michael Black made 27 saves for Burford on 33 shots. The Bulldogs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt Dipaolo was ejected from the game.
