Tavistock rides Larder to victory over Wellesley, 2-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Ben Larder helped the Tavistock Braves defeat the Wellesley Applejacks, 2-1.

Wellesley's power play was ineffective against Tavistock's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Braves were led by Jordan Ritsma, who racked up one goal. Ritsma scored 1:03 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Tavistock. Andrew Bogdon picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:12 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Applejacks were unable to stop Tavistock from sending pucks towards the net, and the Braves eventually piled up 57 shots on goal. Tavistock could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 31 minutes in penalties during the game. The Braves were held back by their power play unit, which tallied one goal on 11 chances.

Jake Wiffen also scored for Tavistock. More assists for Tavistock came via Matthew Lupton and Jamie Shoemaker, who each chipped in one.

Wellesley was often in penalty trouble, totaling 13 minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Applejacks surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game.

Wellesley was led by Jake Wilkinson, who scored the team's only goal. Wilkinson scored on the power play 8:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley. The Applejacks had gotten the advantage when Tavistock's Maverick Petrie was sent off for roughing. Alex Uttley assisted on the tally.

The Braves' Larder stopped 25 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Tavistock ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tayler Trachsel was ejected from the game. Tim Bester made 55 saves for Wellesley on 57 shots. Team's Taylor Doering and Chris Beauchesne were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
