North Dumfries    Thu, Dec 04, 2014

The Ayr Centennials beat the Burford Bulldogs, 3-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

A goal 15:58 into the first period by Riley Clipper proved to be the game winner, and powered Ayr to the victory. The Centennials were on a disadvantage when Kevan Hadad went off the ice for tripping. Felix Lantaigne picked up the assist.

Ayr pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 22 penalty minutes.

The Centennials were led by Brendan Schaefer, who tallied one goal. Schaefer scored on the power play 19:39 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Ayr. A unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Adam Harris had put Ayr on the power play.

The Centennials' offense operated below their season average. Ayr averages 5.7 goals per game. Burford was unable to stop the Centennials from sending pucks towards the net, and Ayr eventually piled up 52 shots on goal.

Quinn Diamond also scored for Ayr. In addition, Ayr received assists from Coleton Madge, who had one.

The Bulldogs could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Burford puts an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game.

The Bulldogs were led by Jesse Brooks, who scored the team's only goal. Brooks scored on the power play 4:59 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Ayr. Burford had taken the advantage when the Centennials' Austin Kovrig got sent off for slashing. Alex Hall provided the assist.
