Burford squeaks by Woodstock, 3-2Burford Community Centre Sat, Nov 29, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Burford Bulldogs gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Woodstock Navy Vets. No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Jesse Brooks at 7:31 of the third period. Brooks had two goals to lead Burford to victory. Woodstock's power play was ineffective against the Bulldogs' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. Burford's offense rang up 32 shots on the Navy Vets' net. The Bulldogs could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game. Burford additionally got points from Mitch Randell, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Burford received assists from Ryan Cadwell, who had one. Woodstock's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Burford power plays. The Navy Vets kept Burford's goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Black made 31 saves on 33 shots. Woodstock was helped by Mike Gillespie, who registered two goals. Gillespie scored the first of his two goals at 3:01 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Mackenzie Langford picked up the assist. Gillespie's next tally made the score 3-3 with 5:46 left in the third period. The Navy Vets had gotten the advantage when the Bulldogs' Adam Harris was sent off for cross checking. Dylan Wettlaufer provided the assist. Woodstock also got points from Wettlaufer, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Other players who recorded assists for Woodstock were Jake Schneider, who had one. Burford ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Blaise Burtnick was ejected from the game. Michael Roefs made 29 saves for Woodstock on 32 shots. The Navy Vets incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. For Woodstock, Emersun Ropp (AP) was ejected from the game.
