Woodstock shrugs off penalties, upends Norwich, 3-0

The Woodstock Navy Vets' penalty kill was superb, as Woodstock survived multiple penalties to beat the Norwich Merchants, 3-0.

The Navy Vets were led by Jake Schneider, who grabbed one goal. Schneider scored on the power play 9:54 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Woodstock. Woodstock had gained a power play chance when Patrick Maziarz was whistled for delay of game. Mackenzie Langford picked up the assist.

The Navy Vets stifled Norwich's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Woodstock was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. The Navy Vets gives up 2.6 goals on average per game. Woodstock forced the Merchants goalie Maziarz to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Woodstock additionally got points from Austin Richardson, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Woodstock also got a goal from Dylan Wettlaufer as well. More assists for Woodstock came via Cam Leslie, Michael Nutt, Mike Gillespie, and Matt Jauernig, who contributed one each.

Norwich could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Merchants put an average of 3.0 pucks into the net per game.

Michael Roefs rejected 19 shots on goal for the Navy Vets. Woodstock incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Maziarz recorded 28 saves for Norwich. The Merchants incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
