Woodstock rides Roefs to victory over Paris, 5-1

Michael Roefs stood on his head and made 25 saves to lead the Woodstock Navy Vets to a 5-1 victory over the Paris Mounties.

Woodstock was led by Jake Schneider, who had one goal. Schneider scored 3:33 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Woodstock. Mike Gillespie assisted on the tally.

The Navy Vets forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. Woodstock surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. The Navy Vets stifled Paris' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Woodstock kept the Mounties' goalie busy throughout the game, and Zach Shomphe made 26 saves on 31 shots.

Others who scored for Woodstock included Mackenzie Langford, Justin Elms, Dylan Wettlaufer, and Dan Haig, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Woodstock were Austin Richardson, Nick Mercier, Cam Leslie, Michael Nutt, Matt Jauernig, Max Coyle, and Jeremy Racicot, who contributed one each.

Paris racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 55 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 30.0 minutes per game the Mounties had been spending in the box. Paris' offense operated below its season average. The Mounties average 3.4 goals per game.

Paris was led by Brodie Smith, who scored the team's only goal. Smith scored 7:13 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Woodstock. Brett Wilson picked up the assist.

The Navy Vets registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Woodstock ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan MacDonald was ejected from the game. The Mounties registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. For Paris, Garrett Kirby was ejected from the game.
