Ayr rips Wellesley, 7-3Wellesley Sat, Nov 22, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Ayr Centennials had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-3 win over the Wellesley Applejacks. Ayr got the win behind a great game by Quinn Diamond, who had two goals and one assist. Diamond scored the first of his two goals at 5:39 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Ayr. Jordan Pettitt provided the assist. Diamond's next tally made the score 7-3 Ayr with 7:13 left in the third period. Austin Kovrig assisted on the tally. Wellesley's power play was ineffective against the Centennials' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Ayr forced the Applejacks' goalies to work between the pipes, launching 47 shots and forcing 40 saves. Tim Bester made 22 stops and Brayden Bruce made 18. The Centennials' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 14 Wellesley power plays. The defensemen of Ayr were also effective in Wellesley's zone, and came away with two goals. Ayr additionally got points from Kovrig, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Ayr also had goals scored by Austin Sine, Anthony Pullia, Andrew Richard, and Colin Schuringa, who scored one goal each. In addition, Ayr received assists from Eric Hackborn, who had two and Kevan Hadad, Jake Whibbs, Connor MacLean, Logan Beechey, Brendan Schaefer, and Sean Mitchell, who each chipped in one. The Applejacks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Wellesley was helped by Jake Wilkinson, who registered one goal and one assist. Wilkinson scored 8:37 into the second period to make the score 6-3 Ayr. Taylor Doering picked up the assist. Wellesley also got a goal from Paul Morra as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Jacob Younger, who had one and Josh Bickell, who had two. Will Rawski recorded 26 saves for the Centennials. Ayr incurred 38 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Applejacks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. For Wellesley, Chris Beauchesne was ejected from the game.
