Woodstock rolls over Paris, 7-0

The Woodstock Navy Vets were firing on all cylinders against the Paris Mounties, and when the final buzzer sounded Navy Vets emerged with a 7-0 win.

Woodstock pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 36 penalty minutes.

The Navy Vets were paced by Dan Haig, who registered one goal. Haig scored 14:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Woodstock. Michael Nutt assisted on the tally.

Woodstock put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Paris to score on any of its seven power plays. The Navy Vets' defensive effort looked to be improved. Woodstock allows 2.8 goals per game. The Navy Vets forced the Mounties goalie Zach Shomphe to work between the pipes, taking 56 shots. Woodstock outdid its season average for goals scored. The Navy Vets have scored at the pace of 3.9 goals per game during the current campaign.

Woodstock additionally got points from Justin Elms, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Jake Schneider, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Woodstock also had goals scored by Mike Gillespie, Mackenzie Langford, Tyler Lyons, and Garrett Whetham, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Woodstock were Chris Nauts, Braden Hutchison, and Max Coyle, who each chipped in one and Dylan Wettlaufer and Jeremy Racicot, who contributed two each.

Paris racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 53 minutes in penalty time. The Mounties surpassed its season average of 27.0 penalty minutes per game. Paris' offense operated below its season average. The Mounties put an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game.

Michael Roefs made 18 saves for Woodstock on 18 shots. The Navy Vets registered three goals on 11 power play opportunities. Paris' Shomphe stopped 49 shots out of the 56 that he faced. For the Mounties, Zach Taylor was ejected from the game.
