New Hamburg hangs on, beats Norwich 4-2Norwich Community Center Fri, Nov 21, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Carter Tracey scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the New Hamburg Firebirds held off the challenges of the Norwich Merchants in a tough 4-2 win. Tracey provided New Hamburg with the game-winning tally when he scored 3:39 into the first period. Chris Eckert provided the assist.Jaden Goetz was all over the ice for the Firebirds, as he finished with two goals in the win. Goetz's tallies came at 7:15 into the second period to make the score 3-1 New Hamburg and 19:43 into the third to make the score 4-2 New Hamburg. Colin Martin also scored for New Hamburg. More assists for New Hamburg came via Andrew Boer and Brodie Muckler, who contributed one each. Norwich's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five New Hamburg power plays. The Merchants' offense rang up 32 shots on New Hamburg's net. Norwich was helped by Braeden Shand, who registered one goal. Shand scored on the power play 7:02 into the third period to make the score 3-2 New Hamburg. The Merchants had gained a power play chance when Jay Fried was whistled for slashing. Troy Lamoure assisted on the tally. Norwich also got a goal from Austin Sloot as well. In addition, Norwich received assists from Kurtis Lavis and Brandon Velda, who each chipped in one. Ryan Purcell rejected 30 shots on goal for the Firebirds. New Hamburg incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Patrick Maziarz recorded 18 saves for Norwich. The Merchants incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
