Huge game by Nowak boosts New Hamburg over Wellesley, 4-1

The New Hamburg Firebirds' Kory Nowak had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 4-1 win over the Wellesley Applejacks.

Nowak found the back of the net 8:11 into the second period to make the score 2-1 New Hamburg and again while 1:21 into the third to make the score 3-1 New Hamburg.

Wellesley was stymied by New Hamburg's netminder Ryan Purcell, who stopped 29 shots during the victory. Purcell certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.5 entering the contest.

The Firebirds kept the Applejacks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tim Bester made 37 saves on 41 shots.

New Hamburg also got points from Taylor Wood, who also grabbed one goal and three assists and Carter Tracey, who also had one goal and three assists.

Wellesley's offense operated below its season average. The Applejacks put an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game.

Wellesley was led by Alex Uttley, who scored the team's only goal. Uttley scored on the power play 1:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley. The Applejacks had taken the advantage when New Hamburg's Anthony Osterling got sent off for tripping. Coleton Madge picked up the assist.

The Firebirds incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Wellesley incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
