Tracey leads New Hamburg over Ayr, 5-2

The New Hamburg Firebirds' Carter Tracey had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 5-2 win over the Ayr Centennials.

Tracey scored 10:42 into the second period to make the score 2-0 New Hamburg. Kory Nowak picked up the assist. Tracey dished an assist on Chris Eckert's goal that made the score 3-2 New Hamburg at 11:17 into the third period. He added another helper on Nowak's goal that made the score 4-2 New Hamburg at 17:22 into the third period.

New Hamburg pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 18 penalty minutes.

The Firebirds forced Ayr's goaltenders to work all game long, finishing with 33 shots and forcing 28 saves. Will Rawski made eight stops and Lee Doherty made 20. New Hamburg stifled the Centennials' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

New Hamburg additionally got points from Nowak, who also tallied one goal and one assist. New Hamburg also had goals scored by Colin Martin and Quinten Haddock, who each put in one. More assists for New Hamburg came via Ryan Purcell, who had one.

Ayr put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Firebirds to score on any of their four power plays. The Centennials could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Ayr averages 5.5 goals per game. New Hamburg was unable to stop the Centennials from sending pucks towards the net, and Ayr eventually piled up 48 shots on goal. The Centennials' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Ayr averages 2.3 goals allowed per game.

The Centennials were led by Riley Clipper, who registered one goal and one assist. Clipper scored 13:31 into the second period to make the score 2-1 New Hamburg. Brendan Schaefer assisted on the tally. Ayr also got a goal from Jake Whibbs as well. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Connor MacLean and Eric Hackborn, who each chipped in one.

Purcell recorded 46 saves for the Firebirds. Ayr incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
