Woodstock uses big second period to beat Burford, 8-3Burford Community Centre Sat, Nov 08, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Woodstock Navy Vets used a three-goal second period to put away the Burford Bulldogs, 8-3. Austin Richardson had two goals and two assists to lead Woodstock. Richardson scored the first of his two goals at 1:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Woodstock. Justin Elms assisted on the tally. Richardson's next tally made the score 2-0 Woodstock with 14:27 left in the first period. A cross checking penalty on Ryan Cadwell had put the Navy Vets on the power play. Cam Leslie picked up the assist. Woodstock's penalty kill excelled, as the Navy Vets gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:48 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Woodstock forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 12 minors and two majors for 44 minutes in penalty time. The Navy Vets surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. Burford was unable to stop Woodstock from sending pucks towards the net, and the Navy Vets eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. Woodstock found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Navy Vets average 3.6 goals per game. Woodstock additionally got points from Mackenzie Langford, who also registered one goal and one assist, Elms, who also had one goal and two assists, and Dylan Wettlaufer, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Chris Nauts also scored for Woodstock. In addition, Woodstock received assists from Matt Jauernig and Jake Schneider, who contributed one each and Braden Hutchison and Dan Haig, who each chipped in two. The Bulldogs were often in penalty trouble, totaling 13 minors and three majors for 81 minutes in penalty time. Burford had been averaging 27.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Bulldogs were helped by Hayden Stewart, who racked up one goal. Stewart scored on the power play 15:06 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Woodstock. Burford had gotten the advantage when Woodstock's Jeremy Racicot was sent off for high sticking. Matt Dipaolo AP assisted on the tally. Burford also got a goal from Kyle Walker as well. Other players who recorded assists for Burford were Alex Hall, Chris Grand, Tyler Hinde, and Kolby Francis, who contributed one each. Jackson Swindells made 23 saves for the Navy Vets on 26 shots. Woodstock registered four goals on 18 power play opportunities. Team's Nauts and Racicot were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Riley Edwards rejected 30 shots on goal for the Bulldogs. For Burford, Grand, Quinn Stefanelli, and Adam Harris were ejected from the contest.
