Bester leads Wellesley to shutout victory over DelhiDelhi Community Centre Fri, Nov 07, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wellesley Applejacks used a sparkling performance by Tim Bester to take down the Delhi Travellers, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Wellesley's 7-0 shutout victory. Blake Hetherington had two goals and one assist to lead the Applejacks. Hetherington scored the first of his two goals at 4:20 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wellesley. Jake Wilkinson picked up the assist. Hetherington's next tally made the score 3-0 Wellesley with 3:23 left in the first period. Reid Denstedt provided the assist. Wellesley forced Delhi's goaltenders to work without much rest, getting 31 shots and forcing 24 saves. Nick Heath made 16 stops and Patrick Tanner made eight. The Applejacks stifled the Travellers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Wellesley surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Applejacks average 3.1 goals per contest. Wellesley found itself short handed often, totaling 50 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays. Wellesley also got points from Tyler Seguin, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Wellesley included Cal Jefferies, who had two and Mackenzie Sealy and Tysen Willemsen, who scored one goal each. More assists for Wellesley came via Matt Schieck, who had two and Brady Gerber AP, Chris Beauchesne, and Jacob Younger, who each chipped in one. Delhi was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 66 penalty minutes. The Applejacks' Bester stopped 27 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Wellesley registered one goal on eight power play opportunities.
