Wellesley penalty kill dominates in 5-2 defeat of Delhi

The Wellesley Applejacks' penalty kill was superb, as Wellesley survived multiple penalties to beat the Delhi Travellers, 5-2.

The Applejacks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Wellesley's offense rang up 46 shots on Delhi's net. The Applejacks found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Wellesley averages 2.8 goals per game. The Applejacks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Wellesley was helped by Eric Heffernan, who had one goal. Heffernan scored 5:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley. Chris Beauchesne picked up the assist. Wellesley also got points from Blake Hetherington, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Wellesley included Paul Morra, Taylor Doering, and Reid Denstedt, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Parker Wood, Cal Jefferies, Jake Wilkinson, and Sean McEwan, who each chipped in one.

The Travellers were helped by Quinn Gaetz, who tallied one goal. Gaetz scored 8:41 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Wellesley. Kelsey Van Ymeren assisted on the tally. Delhi also had goals scored by Kyle Vigar and Nevin Guenther, who each put in one.

The Applejacks' Brayden Bruce stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Wellesley registered one goal on nine power play opportunities. Mike Harrison made 41 saves for Delhi on 46 shots. The Travellers incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
