New Hamburg blows out Burford, 7-2

The New Hamburg Firebirds had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-2 win over the Burford Bulldogs.

Burford's power play was ineffective against New Hamburg's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Firebirds were led by Shawn Antonides, who tallied one goal. Antonides scored 46 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 New Hamburg. Brodie Muckler picked up the assist.

New Hamburg outdid its season average for goals scored. The Firebirds average 4.8 goals per game. New Hamburg got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

New Hamburg also got points from Kory Nowak, who also tallied one goal and one assist, David Jennings, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Jaden Goetz, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for New Hamburg included Jay Fried, Chris Eckert, and Carter Tracey, who each put in one. In addition, New Hamburg received assists from Kyle Mohr, Anthony Osterling, and Brandon Quan, who each chipped in one.

Nick Trask recorded 21 saves for the Firebirds. New Hamburg incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Firebirds ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Andrew Boer was ejected from the game. The Bulldogs' Michael Black stopped 18 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Burford incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For the Bulldogs, Kolby Francis was ejected from the game.
