Ayr uses fast start to beat Tavistock, 11-0

The Ayr Centennials jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Tavistock Braves, 11-0.

Ayr pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 20 penalty minutes.

The Centennials were led by Riley Clipper, who finished with one goal and one assist. Clipper scored 3:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ayr. Jordan Pettitt assisted on the tally.

Ayr forced Tavistock's goaltenders to work in net, ripping 33 shots and forcing 22 saves. Ben Larder made two stops and Nathan Bigelow made 20. The Centennials put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Braves to score on any of their seven power plays. Ayr's defensive play was more effective than usual against Tavistock. The Centennials allow 2.1 goals per game. Ayr found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Centennials average 6.2 goals per game. Ayr got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Ayr additionally got points from Felix Lantaigne, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Austin Sine, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Jake Whibbs, who also registered one goal and one assist, Jackson White, who also tallied one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, and Austin Kovrig, who also had two goals and one assist. Ayr also had goals scored by Mackenzie Kemp, Jeff Howlett, Brendan Schaefer, and Sean Mitchell, who each put in one. In addition, Ayr received assists from Connor MacLean, Carver Ormiston, Anthony Pullia, and Andrew Richard, who contributed two each.

The Braves' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 15 minors and one major for 55 minutes in penalty time. Tavistock had been averaging 37.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Braves did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Tavistock puts an average of 2.8 pucks into the net per game.

Lee Doherty made 19 saves for the Centennials on 19 shots. Ayr registered three goals on 17 power play opportunities. Team's Shaun Pickering, Maverick Petrie, and Charlie Irwin were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
