Woodstock blows out Tavistock, 4-1Tavistock Sat, Oct 11, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Woodstock Navy Vets had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 4-1 win over the Tavistock Braves. Woodstock's penalty kill excelled, as the Navy Vets gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays. Woodstock was led by Justin Elms, who racked up one goal. Elms scored 5:07 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Woodstock. Nathan Innes picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:08 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Navy Vets racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 51 minutes in penalty time. Woodstock surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. The Navy Vets stifled Tavistock's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Woodstock additionally got points from Austin Richardson, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Mackenzie Langford, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Dylan Wettlaufer, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Woodstock came via Mike Gillespie, Max Coyle, and Jake Schneider, who each chipped in one. The Braves forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and two majors for 74 minutes in penalty time. Tavistock had been averaging 31.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Braves were led by Jake Wiffen, who scored the team's only goal. Wiffen scored 14:31 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Woodstock. Jamie Shoemaker assisted on the tally. Woodstock's Michael Roefs stopped 23 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Navy Vets registered two goals on 10 power play opportunities. For Woodstock, Matt Jauernig and Garrett Whetham were ejected from the contest. Nathan Bigelow rejected 18 shots on goal for Tavistock. For the Braves, Spencer Sullivan was ejected from the game.
