Doherty leads Ayr to shutout victory over ParisBrant Sports Complex Sat, Oct 11, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Lee Doherty made 48 saves to complete the shutout and led the Ayr Centennials to a 4-0 win against the Paris Mounties. Ayr pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 70 penalty minutes. The Centennials' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 14 Paris power plays. Ayr was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. The Centennials average 2.3 goals allowed per game. Ayr was helped by Brendan Schaefer, who grabbed one goal. Schaefer scored on the power play 10:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ayr. The Centennials earned a power play opportunity when Merrit Crumback was put in the box for cross checking. Riley Clipper picked up the assist. Ayr also got points from Clipper, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Ayr included Austin Kovrig and Jeff Howlett, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Mackenzie Kemp, Austin Sine, Jake Whibbs, Jackson White, Anthony Pullia, Logan Beechey, and Sean Mitchell, who contributed one each. Paris' offense operated below its season average. The Mounties average 3.7 goals per game. Paris forced Ayr goalie Doherty to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots. The Mounties could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game. The Centennials registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Paris' Zach Shompe stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced.
