Woodstock penalty kill dominates in 4-0 defeat of DelhiWoodstock Community Center Fri, Oct 10, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Delhi Travellers failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Woodstock Navy Vets shook off a number of penalties to win, 4-0. Woodstock was sparked by Austin Richardson, who tallied one goal and one assist. Richardson scored on the power play 3:53 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Woodstock. The Navy Vets had gotten the advantage when Delhi's Justin Plant was sent off for interference. Jake Schneider provided the assist. Woodstock forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 63 minutes in penalty time. The Navy Vets surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. Woodstock excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in 12 chances. Woodstock additionally got points from Mackenzie Langford, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Schneider, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Dylan Wettlaufer also scored for Woodstock. More assists for Woodstock came via Michael Roefs, Mike Gillespie, Max Coyle, and Jeremy Racicot, who contributed one each. The Travellers were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. Delhi had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Navy Vets' defense shut down the Travellers' forwards for much of the game, and Delhi got off only 14 shots during the contest. The Travellers struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Woodstock to score three power play goals on four chances. The Navy Vets' Roefs stopped 14 shots out of the 14 that he faced. For Woodstock, Braden Hutchison and Gillespie were ejected from the contest. Nick Heath took the loss and made two saves before being replaced by Patrick Tanner who made 23 saves. For Delhi, Brendan Schreider was ejected from the game.
