Purcell stymies Ayr, New Hamburg wins 3-1Wilmot Recreation Complex Fri, Oct 10, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Ryan Purcell had a standout game with 46 saves, and the New Hamburg Firebirds beat the Ayr Centennials 3-1. New Hamburg was led by Carter Tracey, who registered one goal. Tracey scored on the power play 14:12 into the third period to make the score 2-1 New Hamburg. The Firebirds had gained a power play chance when Colin Schuringa was whistled for checking from behind. Kory Nowak provided the assist. New Hamburg put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Ayr to score on any of its three power plays. The Firebirds kept the Centennials' goalie busy throughout the game, and Will Rawski made 39 saves on 42 shots. New Hamburg also had goals scored by David Jennings and Matt Bedforth, who each put in one. In addition, New Hamburg received assists from Quinten Haddock and Andrew Boer, who contributed one each. Ayr's offense operated below its season average. The Centennials put an average of 5.6 pucks into the net per game. New Hamburg was unable to stop Ayr from sending pucks towards the net, and the Centennials eventually piled up 47 shots on goal. Ayr was led by Anthony Pullia, who scored the team's only goal. Pullia scored short handed 17:05 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Centennials played down a man on Brendan Schaefer's tripping. Andrew Richard picked up the assist. The Firebirds incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. New Hamburg ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brandon Quan was ejected from the game. Ayr incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Centennials, Schuringa was ejected from the game.
