Ayr uses fast start to beat Burford, 11-1North Dumfries Thu, Oct 09, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
A five-goal first period deficit cost the Burford Bulldogs, which could not recover and fell to the Ayr Centennials, 11-1. Anthony Pullia had two goals to lead Ayr to victory. Pullia scored at 8:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ayr and again while on the power play 9:34 into the first to make the score 2-0 Ayr. The Centennials pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 43 penalty minutes. Ayr forced Burford's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, ripping 48 shots and forcing 37 saves. Riley Edwards made 11 stops and Michael Black made 26. The Centennials' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Ayr averages 6.1 goals per contest. Ayr also got points from Austin Sine, who also registered two goals and one assist, Jake Whibbs, who also had one goal and two assists, Riley Clipper, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Austin kovrig, who also tallied one goal and two assists, and Connor MacLean, who also registered one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Ayr also got a goal from Brendan Schaefer as well. In addition, Ayr received assists from Jackson White, Jeff Howlett, Eric Hackborn, Jordan Pettitt, and Andrew Richard, who each chipped in one and Logan Beechey and Lee Doherty, who contributed two each. The Bulldogs were held below their usual level of production. Burford puts an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. The Bulldogs' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Burford finished with 25 penalty minutes. The Bulldogs were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to one goal off of 10 man advantages. Kolby Francis also scored for Burford. Other players who recorded assists for Burford were Adam Harris, who had one. The Centennials' Doherty stopped 24 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Ayr registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. For the Centennials, Sean Mitchell was ejected from the game. Burford ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jesse Brooks was ejected from the game.
