Tavistock wins tough contest against Paris, 5-3

The game between the Tavistock Braves and the Paris Mounties was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Tavistock emerged with a 5-3 win.

The Braves gained the winning advantage on a goal by Darcey Butler 12:30 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Shaun Pickering was all over the ice for Tavistock, as he registered two goals in the win. Pickering's tallies came at 10:30 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Tavistock and 53 seconds into the second to make the score 3-1 Tavistock.

The Braves pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 20 penalty minutes.

Tavistock forced Paris' netminders to work in net, totaling 32 shots and forcing 27 saves. Zach Shompe made 20 stops and Davis McLean made seven. The Braves excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances.

Tavistock additionally got points from Jake Wiffen, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Tavistock also got a goal from Jamie Shoemaker as well. Other players who recorded assists for Tavistock were Liam Kelly, who had three and Braedon Hancock and Maverick Petrie, who contributed one each.

The Mounties stifled Tavistock's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Paris forced the Braves goalie Ben Larder to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. The Mounties' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Paris gives up 2.4 goals per game.

The Mounties were helped by Merrit Crumback, who finished with one goal. Crumback scored 11:11 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Tavistock. Clayton Chalmers provided the assist. Paris also got points from Chalmers, who also had one goal and one assist and Brodie Smith, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Paris received assists from Brett Banks and Brady Wheelans, who each chipped in one.

Tavistock's Larder stopped 34 shots out of the 37 that he faced. The Braves registered zero goals on seven power play opportunities. Paris incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For the Mounties, Matthew Small and Tye Calder were ejected from the contest.
