Ayr penalty kill dominates in 7-3 defeat of WoodstockNorth Dumfries Thu, Oct 02, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Woodstock Navy Vets failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Ayr Centennials shook off a number of penalties to win, 7-3. Ayr was led by Carver Ormiston, who finished with one goal. Ormiston scored 1:48 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Ayr. Sean Mitchell picked up the assist. In a losing effort, Woodstock was led by Mackenzie Langford, who tallied two goals. Langford scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:46 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The Navy Vets had taken the advantage when the Centennials' Mitchell got sent off for cross checking. Langford's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 3:50 left in the second period. Matt Jauernig assisted on the tally. Ayr's offense rang up 45 shots on Woodstock's net. The Centennials were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 48 penalty minutes. Ayr additionally got points from Jake Whibbs, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Colin Schuringa, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Ayr included Riley Clipper, who had two and Austin Sine and Anthony Pullia, who scored one goal each. More assists for Ayr came via Connor MacLean, Jeff Howlett, and Eric Hackborn, who contributed one each. Team could not crack Ayr's penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage. Mike Gillespie also scored for Woodstock. Lee Doherty made 21 saves for the Centennials on 24 shots. Ayr registered three goals on nine power play opportunities. Jackson Swindells rejected 38 shots on goal for the Navy Vets. Woodstock incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
