Tavistock rolls over Wellesley, 5-2Tavistock Fri, Sep 26, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Tavistock Braves had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Wellesley Applejacks. Shaun Pickering had a great game for Tavistock, netting two goals. Pickering's tallies came on the power play at 13:11 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and 18:19 into the first to make the score 2-1 Tavistock. Wellesley's power play was ineffective against the Braves' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. Tavistock was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to one goal off of 13 man advantages. Tavistock also got points from Josh Higgins, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Tavistock included Spencer Sullivan and Darcey Butler, who each put in one. More assists for Tavistock came via Matthew Lupton, who had two, Liam Kelly, who had three, and Braedon Hancock, Jake Wiffen, and Tristan Hohl, who each chipped in one. The Applejacks were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 71 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 32.0 minutes per game Wellesley had been spending in the box. The Applejacks were helped by Reid Denstedt, who finished with one goal. Denstedt scored on the power play 11:21 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Wellesley had taken the advantage when the Braves' Pickering got sent off for tripping. Cal Jefferies assisted on the tally. Wellesley also got a goal from Taylor Doering as well. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Coleton Madge and Eric Heffernan, who contributed one each. Ben Larder recorded 20 saves for Tavistock. The Braves incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Applejacks' Brayden Bruce stopped 24 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Wellesley ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jake Wilkinson was ejected from the game.
