Norwich outlasts Woodstock, 4-2Woodstock Community Center Fri, Sep 26, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Norwich Merchants escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Woodstock Navy Vets. Norwich gained the winning advantage on a goal by Cam Moulton 11:46 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer. The Merchants' penalty kill excelled, as Norwich gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays. The Merchants were sparked by Moulton, who had one goal. Norwich found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Merchants average 1.8 goal per contest. Others who scored for Norwich included Kurtis Lavis, Braeden Shand, and Matt Zilke, who scored one goal each. More assists for Norwich came via Mitchell Berzins, Brandon Velda, Jordan Gillis, Jesse Szabo, and Ryan Stephenson, who contributed one each. Woodstock's offense rang up 42 shots on Norwich's net. The Navy Vets were led by Jake Schneider, who registered two goals. Schneider scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Woodstock. Woodstock had gotten the advantage when the Merchants' Harlen Vanwynsberghe was sent off for cross checking. Chris Nauts picked up the assist. Schneider's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 Woodstock with 10:15 left in the first period. Dylan Wettlaufer provided the assist. Patrick Maziarz made 40 saves for Norwich on 42 shots. The Merchants totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. For Norwich, Moulton was ejected from the game. Michael Roefs rejected 21 shots on goal for the Navy Vets. Woodstock ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. The Navy Vets ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cam Leslie was ejected from the game.
