New Hamburg squeaks by Delhi, 4-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the New Hamburg Firebirds escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Delhi Travellers.

New Hamburg gained the winning advantage on a goal by Taylor Wood 14:51 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Wood was all over the ice for the Firebirds, as he racked up two goals in the win.

New Hamburg's penalty kill excelled, as the Firebirds gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

New Hamburg forced Delhi goalie Nick Heath to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots. The Firebirds capitalized on the Travellers' penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage.

New Hamburg also had goals scored by Anthony Osterling and Carter Tracey, who each put in one. More assists for New Hamburg came via Kory Nowak, who had two and Hendrick Rolleman AP, Brandon Quan, and Chris Eckert, who contributed one each.

Delhi was helped by Kelsey Van Ymeren, who had one goal. Van Ymeren scored 13:52 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Colin Van Daele provided the assist. Others who scored for Delhi included Taylor Hockley and Brendan Schreider, who scored one goal each. In addition, Delhi received assists from Quinn Gaetz and Matt Jakubowski, who each chipped in one.

Ryan Purcell made 25 saves for New Hamburg on 28 shots. The Firebirds incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Heath recorded 40 saves for the Travellers. Delhi incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Travellers, Justin Plant was ejected from the game.
