New Hamburg survives Tavistock comeback, wins 4-3

The Tavistock Braves tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the New Hamburg Firebirds held on for a 4-3 victory.

New Hamburg took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Tavistock storm back on a Josh Higgins goal 15:34 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Firebirds pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 22 penalty minutes.

New Hamburg was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of 10 man advantages.

The Firebirds were led by Quinten Haddock, who finished with one goal and one assist. Haddock scored on the power play 7:14 into the third period to make the score 4-2 New Hamburg. New Hamburg earned a power play opportunity when Shaun Pickering was put in the box for roughing. Chris Eckert assisted on the tally. New Hamburg also got points from Jaden Goetz, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. New Hamburg also had goals scored by Brodie Muckler and Carter Tracey, who each put in one. In addition, New Hamburg received assists from Andrew Boer, who had two and Kory Nowak, Anthony Osterling, and David Jennings, who contributed one each.

The Firebirds were unable to stop the Braves from sending pucks towards the net, and Tavistock eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. The Braves were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 32 penalty minutes.

More assists for Tavistock came via Matthew Lupton, Josh Borys, Tayler Trachsel, and Angus Rowland, who each chipped in one.

Nick Trask rejected 28 shots on goal for New Hamburg. For the Firebirds, Jay Fried was ejected from the game. Nathan Bigelow made 22 saves for Tavistock on 26 shots. The Braves registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Tavistock ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Maverick Petrie was ejected from the game.
