Huge game by Richard boosts Ayr over New Hamburg, 8-4North Dumfries Thu, Sep 18, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Ayr Centennials' Andrew Richard had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 8-4 win over the New Hamburg Firebirds. Richard got on the board by slotting home a goal 5:43 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Ayr. Alex Ritchie picked up the assist. Richard dished an assist on Eric Hackborn's goal that made the score 3-1 Ayr at 7:18 into the first period. He added another helper on Jeff Howlett's goal that made the score 5-1 Ayr at 19:38 into the first period.Ayr surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Centennials have scored at the pace of 5.9 goals per game during the current campaign. Ayr had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 10 chances. Ayr also got points from Austin Kovrig, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Ritchie, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Carver Ormiston, who also had one goal and one assist, and Howlett, who also registered one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Ayr included Brendan Schaefer and Alex Uttley, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Riley Clipper, Austin Sine, and Jordan Pettitt, who contributed one each and Kevan Hadad and Sean Mitchell, who each chipped in two. New Hamburg could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 46 minutes in penalties during the game. The Firebirds were helped by Tyler Hoffman, who tallied one goal. Hoffman scored short handed 1:20 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Ayr. New Hamburg also had goals scored by Anthony Osterling, David Jennings, and Taylor Wood, who each put in one. More assists for New Hamburg came via Nolan Blum, Kory Nowak, Ben Playfair, and Chris Eckert, who contributed one each. Lee Doherty recorded 19 saves for the Centennials. Ayr incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. New Hamburg's Nick Trask stopped 22 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Firebirds registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For New Hamburg, Carter Tracey was ejected from the game.
