Burford squeaks by Tavistock, 4-3Tavistock Fri, Sep 12, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Burford Bulldogs gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Tavistock Braves. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Adam Harris secured the win for Burford with a goal in the third period. The Bulldogs were sparked by Harris, who tallied one goal. Harris scored 19:43 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Burford. Burford's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Tavistock power plays. Burford also got points from Hayden Stewart, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Burford also had goals scored by Jesse Brooks and Brandon Cain, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Burford were Connor Merritt, who had one. Tavistock put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Bulldogs to score on any of their three power plays. The Braves kept Burford's goalie busy throughout the game, and Riley Edwards made 32 saves on 35 shots. Tavistock was helped by Drew Wagler, who grabbed one goal. Wagler scored 17:03 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Tavistock. Charlie Irwin provided the assist. Others who scored for Tavistock included Shaun Pickering and Andrew Bogdon, who each put in one. More assists for Tavistock came via Spencer Sullivan, who had two. The Bulldogs ended with 29 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. Team's Merritt and Blaise Burtnick were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Nathan Bigelow rejected 19 shots on goal for the Braves. Tavistock ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. The Braves ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matthew Lupton was ejected from the game.
