Caledon vanquishes Penetang in shootout, 3-2 (2-0 SO)

Penetang Memorial CC    Fri, Jan 30, 2015

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Caledon Golden Hawks defeated the Penetang Kings in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed four turns to complete the shootout. In addition to the clincher, Caledon got a shootout goal from Daniel Cafagna.

The Golden Hawks came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Caledon trailed 2-0 after a goal by Penetang's Brett Simpson (APM) at 7:45 in the second period. The Golden Hawks knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Cafagna at 7:26 in the third period.

Caledon's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Penetang power plays. The Golden Hawks forced the Kings goalie Martin Lauzon to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Caledon also got points from James Pitsadiotis, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Caledon came via Cody Forgione, who had one.

Caledon was unable to stop Penetang from sending pucks towards the net, and the Kings eventually piled up 47 shots on goal. Penetang's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Penetang also got a goal from Dan Hogan as well. In addition, Penetang received assists from Brad Kuepfer, who had two and Zach Bertucca and Ryan Hackett, who contributed one each.

James Cyfko recorded 45 saves for the Golden Hawks. Caledon incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Kings' Lauzon stopped 33 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Penetang incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
