Alliston rolls over Caledon, 8-3

The Alliston Hornets had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-3 win over the Caledon Golden Hawks.

Alliston got the win with help from a great game by Mark ODonnell, who had two goals and one assist. ODonnell scored the first of his two goals short handed at 19:55 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Alliston. The Hornets found themselves down a man on Matt Cochrane's hooking. Jacob Tuck picked up the assist. ODonnell's next tally short handed made the score 6-1 Alliston with 6:52 left in the second period. Tanner Dockerty assisted on the tally.

Caledon's power play was ineffective against Alliston's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Hornets put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Golden Hawks to score on any of their seven power plays. Alliston kept Caledon's goalie busy throughout the game, and James Cyfko made 55 saves on 63 shots. The Hornets' goal total was higher than their season average. Alliston has scored at the pace of 5.1 goals per game during the current campaign.

Alliston additionally got points from Connor Annett, who also finished with two goals and one assist, Dockerty, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, and Nic Archibald, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Alliston also had goals scored by Joe Cochrane and Nick Arcan, who each put in one. More assists for Alliston came via Steve Griggs, who had three and Zack Byblow, Ryan Lewis, and Matt Hamilton, who each chipped in one.

The Golden Hawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Caledon was led by Ben Ardis, who registered one goal and one assist. Ardis scored 15:39 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Alliston. Damian Caringis picked up the assist. Others who scored for Caledon included Nicholas McNutt and Daniel Cafagna, who scored one goal each. In addition, Caledon received assists from James Pitsadiotis and Ryan Wonfor, who contributed one each.

Tyler Brindle rejected 24 shots on goal for the Hornets. Alliston incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Golden Hawks ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. Caledon ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Steven Klomp was ejected from the game.
