Stayner falls to Caledon in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

The Caledon Golden Hawks pulled out a 6-5 (OT) overtime victory over the Stayner Siskins on a clutch goal by Daniel Cafagna.

Although Caledon was up by as many as two goals in the second period, Stayner kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Siskins got to within 4-3 on a goal by Quinten Bruce at 48 seconds in the third period.

The Golden Hawks got the win thanks to a great game by Cafagna, who had two goals and two assists. Cafagna scored the first of his two goals at 16:42 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Caledon. Christian Burel provided the assist. Cafagna's next tally made the score 6-5 Caledon with 19:03 left in overtime. Burel assisted on the tally.

Caledon's goal total was higher than its season average. The Golden Hawks average 3.6 goals per game. Caledon's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Golden Hawks finished with 24 penalty minutes.

Caledon additionally got points from Nicholas McNutt, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Christian Mariconda, who also registered two goals and one assist, and Burel, who also had one goal and two assists. In addition, Caledon received assists from Randy Chen, James Pitsadiotis, and Alex Palumbo, who contributed one each.

Stayner put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Caledon to score on any of its three power plays. The Siskins kept the Golden Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Sam Procopio made 40 saves on 45 shots.

Stayner also got points from Cooper Martin, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Dakota Hynes, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Derick Robertson also scored for Stayner. Other players who recorded assists for Stayner were Lucas Jeffery, Kort Weir, Jackson Clarke, Ricky Darrell, Christian Papineau, and Sean Healy, who each chipped in one.

Trevor Bloch rejected 17 shots on goal for Stayner. The Siskins incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
