Stayner wins tough contest against Erin, 4-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Stayner Siskins escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Erin Shamrocks.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Jamieson Buck's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Stayner got the win on the strength of a great game by Quinten Bruce, who had one goal and two assists. Bruce scored 3:20 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Kyle Lafreniere provided the assist.

The Siskins' penalty kill excelled, as Stayner gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

The Siskins stifled Erin's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Stayner's offense rang up 37 shots on the Shamrocks' net. The Siskins were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 28 penalty minutes.

Stayner also got points from Buck, who also had one goal and one assist and Lucas Jeffery, who also registered one goal and one assist. Ricky Darrell also scored for Stayner. In addition, Stayner received assists from Derick Robertson and Christian Papineau, who each chipped in one.

Erin's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Shamrocks finished with 38 penalty minutes.

Erin was led by Chris Grenier, who tallied two goals. Grenier scored the first of his two goals at 4:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Erin. Adam Gibson picked up the assist. Grenier's next tally made the score 3-3 with 6:15 left in the third period. Gibson assisted on the tally. Erin also got a goal from Jesse Gunn as well. More assists for Erin came via Tyler Topham, who had two and Adam Anderson and Tyler Nieuwendyk, who contributed one each.

Trevor Bloch rejected 23 shots on goal for Stayner. The Siskins registered two goals on nine power play opportunities. The Shamrocks' Tom Denstedt stopped 33 shots out of the 37 that he faced.
