Orillia blows out Alliston, 5-2

The Alliston Hornets had trouble finding ways to stop the Orillia Terriers, which beat Hornets, 5-2.

Orillia was paced by Mathew White, who tallied one goal and one assist. White scored 6:30 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Orillia. Ryan Tucci picked up the assist.

The Terriers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Alliston to score on any of its three power plays.

Orillia also got points from Jason Binnie, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Orillia also got a goal from Brock Welsh as well. Other players who recorded assists for Orillia were Jacob Beard, Garret Franzin, and Jordan Felix, who contributed one each and Denny Benson and Ty Traynor, who each chipped in two.

The Hornets were held below their usual level of production. Alliston puts an average of 5.0 pucks into the net per game. The Hornets' offense rang up 41 shots on Orillia's net. Alliston gave up more goals than its normal season average. The Hornets average 2.3 goals allowed per game.

Alliston was helped by Joe Cochrane, who registered one goal. Cochrane scored 11:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alliston. Connor Annett assisted on the tally. Jacob Tuck also scored for Alliston. In addition, Alliston received assists from Jamie Bennett, Andrew Ceolin, and Matt Hamilton, who contributed one each.

Gordie Weiss recorded 39 saves for the Terriers. Orillia incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Terriers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kyle Taylor was ejected from the game. The Hornets' TJ Sherwood stopped 25 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Alliston incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
