Stayner beats Alliston 3-1 after comeback scare

The Alliston Hornets tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Stayner Siskins would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-1.

Stayner took a 3-0 lead during the second period, only to have Alliston storm back on a Nic Archibald goal 11:02 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Siskins' Trevor Bloch was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 34 saves and let only one puck past him. Bloch certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.85 entering the contest.

Stayner was helped by Cooper Martin, who registered one goal. Martin scored 9:31 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Stayner. Dylan Bursey assisted on the tally. Stayner also got points from Ricky Darrell, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Sean Healy, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Stayner came via Quinten Bruce, Ben Lougheed, and Christian Papineau, who each chipped in one.

The Hornets were held below their usual level of production. Alliston averages 5.1 goals per game. The Hornets forced the Siskins goalie Bloch to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Alliston were Steve Griggs and Payton Dunlop, who contributed one each.

Stayner incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Tyler Brindle rejected 23 shots on goal for Alliston. The Hornets incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Alliston, Mark ODonnell was ejected from the game.
