Penetang vanquishes Fergus in shootout, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Penetang Kings defeated the Fergus Devils in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.

Penetang came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Kings was down 2-0 after a goal by Fergus' Patrick Snell at 5:53 in the first period. Penetang knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Matt VanBoven at 14:50 in the third period.

The Kings pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 32 penalty minutes.

Penetang also got a goal from Brandon Frandsen as well. Other players who recorded assists for Penetang were Kyle Burns, Jordan Schwartz, and Craig Robinson, who contributed one each.

The Devils kept Penetang's goalie busy throughout the game, and Adam Redgate made 30 saves on 32 shots.

Fergus was helped by James Murray, who had one goal. Murray scored on the power play 4:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fergus. The Devils earned a power play opportunity when Dan Hogan was put in the box for tripping. Ben Roelofson provided the assist. More assists for Fergus came via Griffin Heitshu, Matthew Clarke, and Mike Traves, who each chipped in one.

The Kings registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For Penetang, Matt Meher was ejected from the game. Alex Elliott recorded 25 saves for Fergus. The Devils incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
