Burgess' hat trick boosts Midland over Caledon, 8-3Caledon East Arena Sun, Dec 14, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Neal Burgess lifted the Midland Flyers to an 8-3 victory with a hat trick against the Caledon Golden Hawks. Burgess notched his first tally 10:33 into the first period. He then added goals at 6:30 into the second and at 15:12 into the second.Caledon's power play was ineffective against Midland's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. The Flyers forced Golden Hawks' netminders to work in net, taking 42 shots and forcing 34 saves. James Cyfko made nine stops and Sam Procopio made 25. Midland stifled the Golden Hawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Flyers surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Midland averages 3.6 goals per contest. The Flyers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game. Midland additionally got points from Jon Goldsworthy, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Evan Buehler, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Midland included Jimmy Walter, Corey DeRose, and Matt Smith, who scored one goal each. In addition, Midland received assists from Callan Heins, who had two and Steven Pickard, Jake Evans, Curtis Rawn, and Jason Stone, who contributed one each. Caledon was helped by Steven Klomp, who racked up one goal. Klomp scored 41 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Caledon. Christian Bonaldi assisted on the tally. Caledon also had goals scored by Ryan Mouser and Nicholas McNutt, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Caledon were Randy Chen, Jake Mottershaw, James Pitsadiotis, and Alex Palumbo, who each chipped in one. Midland's Jake Norton stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Flyers registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Golden Hawks incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
