Midland wins tough contest against Orillia, 4-3

The Midland Flyers gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Orillia Terriers.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Steven Pickard at 12:40 of the third period.

Midland got the win thanks to a great game by Jon Goldsworthy, who had two goals and one assist. Goldsworthy scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:36 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Midland. The Flyers had gotten the advantage when Orillia's Ryan Tucci was sent off for roughing. Neal Burgess picked up the assist. Goldsworthy's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Midland with 11:36 left in the third period. Jason Stone assisted on the tally.

Midland kept the Terriers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Gordie Weiss made 36 saves on 40 shots.

Callan Heins also scored for Midland. More assists for Midland came via Corey DeRose, Curtis Anderson (APM), and Jake Evans, who each chipped in one.

Orillia was helped by Mathew White, who registered one goal. White scored on the power play 10:18 into the third period to make the score 3-3. The Terriers earned a power play opportunity when Jake Norton was put in the box for delay of game. Jason Binnie picked up the assist. Orillia additionally got points from Binnie, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Orillia received assists from Jacob Beard, Matt Clifford, and Denny Benson, who contributed one each.

Jake Norton made 27 saves for the Flyers on 30 shots. Midland incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Orillia incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
