Schafer's hat trick boosts Fergus over Midland, 7-4

The Midland Flyers could not stop the Fergus Devils' Joshua Schafer, who tallied a hat trick in a 7-4 win.

Schafer's first goal came 4:58 into the second period. He then added goals at 16:25 into the second and at 11:21 into the third.

Midland fell victim to a deadly Fergus power play, which ripped the Flyers for four goals.

The Devils forced Midland goalie Jake Norton to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Fergus bested its season scoring average. This season, the Devils average 3.7 goals per contest.

Fergus additionally got points from Griffin Heitshu, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Paolo Chemello, who also had one goal and one assist, and Jack Vautour, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Fergus also got a goal from Mike Traves as well. In addition, Fergus received assists from Cole Bradley, Tyson Bouchard, Ben Roelofson, James Murray, and Matthew Clarke, who contributed one each.

The Flyers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

Midland was led by Bobby Logan, who finished with two goals and one assist. Logan scored the first of his two goals short handed at 1:33 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Midland. A roughing call on Curtis Rawn put the Flyers on the penalty kill. Logan's next tally short handed made the score 3-2 Midland with 8:18 left in the second period. Jake Evans picked up the assist. Midland also had goals scored by Tully Jackson and Matt Smith, who scored one goal each. More assists for Midland came via Daniel Pickering and Corey DeRose, who each chipped in one.

Fergus' Alex Elliott stopped 21 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Devils incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Jake Norton made 27 saves for Midland on 33 shots. The Flyers registered two goals on four power play opportunities.
