Stayner erases deficit to stun Penetang, 7-5

Undaunted by a three-goal deficit, the Stayner Siskins battled back to claim a 7-5 victory over the Penetang Kings.

Stayner never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Siskins was down 4-1 after a power play goal by Penetang's Nate Archer at 5:34 in the second period. Stayner knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Kyle Lafreniere at 16:31 in the second period. The Siskins netted the game winner at 6:25 in the third period on a goal by Lafreniere.

Derick Robertson was all over the ice for Stayner, as he had two goals in the win.

The Kings were unable to stop the Siskins from sending pucks towards the net, and Stayner eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. The Siskins bested their season scoring average. Stayner has scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign. The Siskins had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances.

Stayner additionally got points from Lafreniere, who also registered two goals and two assists and Sean Healy, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Stayner also had goals scored by Trevor Franklin and Quinten Bruce, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Stayner were Ryan Hudson and Christian Papineau, who each chipped in one and Ben Lougheed and Ricky Darrell, who contributed two each.

Penetang forced Stayner goalie Xavier Portelance to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Kings' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Penetang finished with 26 penalty minutes.

The Kings were led by Craig Robinson, who finished with two goals. Robinson scored the first of his two goals at 6:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Penetang. Jordan Schwartz assisted on the tally. Robinson's next tally made the score 6-5 Stayner with 8:32 left in the third period. Penetang also got points from Hayden Cole, who also had one goal and one assist. Matt VanBoven also scored for Penetang. In addition, Penetang received assists from Kyle Dedecker, Kyle Burns, Brad Kuepfer, Matt Meher, and David Pearce, who each chipped in one.

Portelance recorded 28 saves for the Siskins. Stayner incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Adam Redgate made 28 saves for Penetang on 34 shots. The Kings registered two goals on four power play opportunities.
