Fergus blows out Erin, 7-2

The Fergus Devils were firing on all cylinders against the Erin Shamrocks, and when the final buzzer sounded Devils emerged with a 7-2 win.

Fergus' penalty kill excelled, as the Devils gave up one goal despite allowing nine power plays.

Fergus forced Erin's goaltenders to work all game long, finishing with 52 shots and forcing 45 saves. Mark Terry made nine stops and Tom Denstedt made 36. The Devils bested their season scoring average. This season, Fergus averages 3.6 goals per contest. The Devils' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals. Fergus could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Devils were helped by Reese DeBrouwer, who racked up one goal. DeBrouwer scored 2:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fergus. Brock Philips picked up the assist. Fergus also got points from Jack Vautour, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Fergus included Tyson Bouchard, Patrick Snell, Mikael Ruffini, Mike Traves, and Ryan Lavrench, who scored one goal each. More assists for Fergus came via James Murray, Brock Heshka, and Paolo Chemello, who each chipped in one and Ben Roelofson and Griffin Heitshu, who contributed two each.

The Shamrocks forced Fergus goalie Alex Elliott to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots. Erin struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 28 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays.

The Shamrocks were helped by Adam Gibson, who tallied one goal and one assist. Gibson scored on the power play 9:36 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Fergus. Erin had taken the advantage when the Devils' Matthew Clarke got sent off for slashing. Jack Ford provided the assist. Erin additionally got points from Adam Ferrer, who also registered one goal and one assist.

Elliott recorded 41 saves for Fergus. For the Shamrocks, Ferrer was ejected from the game.
