Bloch leads Stayner to shutout victory over SchombergCreemore Arena Sat, Nov 22, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Trevor Bloch recorded a shutout against the Schomberg Cougars as the Stayner Siskins picked up a 4-0 win. Schomberg's power play was ineffective against Stayner's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:54 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Siskins put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cougars to score on any of their six power plays. Stayner kept Schomberg's goalie busy throughout the game, and Taylor Ewart made 38 saves on 42 shots. The Siskins were led by Brandon Watson, who registered one goal and one assist. Watson scored 3:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stayner. Derick Robertson picked up the assist. Stayner also got a goal from Kort Weir as well. Other players who recorded assists for Stayner were Griffin Pearce, Lucas Jeffery, Kyle Lafreniere, Christian Papineau, and Sean Healy, who contributed one each. The Cougars' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Stayner power plays. Schomberg was held below its usual level of production. The Cougars put an average of 3.0 pucks into the net per game. Stayner was unable to stop Schomberg from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cougars eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. Bloch recorded 35 saves for the Siskins. Stayner ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major. For the Siskins, Quinten Bruce and Ryan Hyndman were ejected from the contest. Schomberg ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. For the Cougars, Matthew Hudgin was ejected from the game.
