Orillia's comeback falls short, Caledon wins 4-2Caledon East Arena Sun, Nov 16, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Caledon Golden Hawks, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Orillia Terriers and clinched a 4-2 victory. Caledon led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Golden Hawks' Daniel Cafagna scored on the power play at 19:13 in the second period to put Caledon up 3-0. Cafagna had one goal and two assists to lead the Golden Hawks. In the losing effort, Orillia was led by Brock Welsh, who racked up two goals. Welsh scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:08 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Caledon. The Terriers had gotten the advantage when Caledon's Steve Zeppieri was sent off for head contact. Mathew White assisted on the tally. Welsh's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Caledon with 14:05 left in the third period. Jason Binnie picked up the assist. The Golden Hawks kept Orillia's goalie busy throughout the game, and Gordie Weiss made 36 saves on 40 shots. Caledon struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 24 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays. Caledon also got points from Christian Bonaldi, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Caledon also had goals scored by Ryan Mouser and Steven Klomp, who each put in one. In addition, Caledon received assists from Christian Mariconda, who had two and Nicholas McNutt and Cody Forgione, who contributed one each. The Terriers forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Orillia surpassed its season average of 27.0 penalty minutes per game. The Terriers forced the Golden Hawks goalie Sam Procopio to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Other players who recorded assists for Orillia were Jordan Felix, who had one. Caledon's Procopio stopped 35 shots out of the 37 that he faced. The Golden Hawks registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Team's Jake Mottershaw and Zeppieri were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. For Orillia, Ryan Tucci was ejected from the game.
