Joshua Schafer netted a hat trick to lead the Fergus Devils over the Midland Flyers, 8-7. Schafer's first goal came 15:18 into the first period. He then added goals at 19:59 into the second and at 10:40 into the third.Fergus led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Devils' Jack Vautour scored at 8:06 in the second period to put Fergus up 5-2. The Devils pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 30 penalty minutes. Fergus kept Midland's goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Klerer made 38 saves on 46 shots. The Devils surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Fergus has scored at the pace of 4.0 goals per game during the current campaign. Team could not crack the Flyers' penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage. Fergus also got points from Cole Bradley, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Vautour, who also had one goal and one assist. Fergus also got a goal from Mike Traves as well. More assists for Fergus came via Joey Shaw, who had one, Reese DeBrouwer, who had three, and Mikael Ruffini and Paolo Chemello, who contributed two each. Midland's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Flyers had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. Midland forced the Devils' goalies to work in net, firing 49 shots and forcing 42 saves. Alex Elliott made 14 stops and David Serra made 28. The Flyers found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Midland averages 2.8 goals per contest. The Flyers' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Midland was led by Nick Heins, who grabbed two goals. Heins scored the first of his two goals at 13:28 into the second period to make the score 5-4 Fergus. Bobby Logan picked up the assist. Heins' next tally made the score 6-5 Fergus with 2:12 left in the second period. The Flyers had gotten the advantage when Fergus' Ben Roelofson was sent off for holding. Matt Smith provided the assist. Midland additionally got points from Evan Buehler, who also registered one goal and one assist, Steven Pickard, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Cam Russell, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Midland included Ben Hughes and Will Craig, who each put in one. In addition, Midland received assists from Tully Jackson and Ben Skuce, who each chipped in one. The Devils ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Patrick Snell was ejected from the game. Midland registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Team's Smith and Hughes were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
